Criticism and views on the art of Hans Philipp Osterbrink

...constantly in motion, knowing no fixed point, Hans Philipp Osterbrink swings between day and night, between wounded, distorted people and the drawing sheet, the canvas, between reality and imagination. On the path from one turning point of the pendulum to the other - in the back and forth between day and night - Hans Osterbrink moves with wide-awake senses, always looking, listening, asking, speaking, reading, searching, finding, doubting in the circumstances of the times.

Having arrived in the night, Hans Philipp Osterbrink creates his pictures. Their pictorial contents develop spontaneously; memories mix with fantasies, often also with current experiences or contemporary events.

Heiner Bergmann (1989)

Dr. Roland Held's 2013 text is an acrostic. In the German original, and approximately in this English version, the initial letters of the lines spell "OSTERBRINK VIVAT".

O the eye, the exchange- Station where they are Traded, the fleeting currencies of outside and inside, Expression and impression. Broadly spread petrol, Rolled phosphor green, verdigris, chrome yellow, co- Blue-cobalt, rust-pink as viscous mass, squeezed, trembling, e- Rotically sprawled over one another. Then only one page further, everything In bright turmoil, volca- Nically boiling: Kalligraphies, danced to pieces.

Venice! But this time Bengali: bridges of haze, traveling Islands and moored vaulting, half darkroom, half apparition, Vision of colors forever sprouting anew, At the edges, until the pencil district overflows with Things dreamed and remembered.
